Editing Lesson Blog

Today, I learned about the process of checking out a camera, media pass and SD card. I also learned how to dump. Our teacher went over the fact that every time we check out a camera we need to fill out the agreement form. She went over what’s needs to be filled out on the form, what happens if the information is not completely filled out, and when it was appropriate to turn the camera back in. We where also educated on the proper way to sign out the SD card reader. She demonstrated how to put it in the camera gently, and explained the sole purpose of it. Which was to move the footage we’d taken on the camera and move it over to the desktop of the computer. She explained the hazards of not using the SD card properly and how our footage could get lost, so we should have our footage in different places. We learned how to slide the SD card into the “little door” on the camera. Overall I gathered what she was saying, and I don’t think I’ll have issues with the check-out process or the use of the SD cards.
In addition, we learned how to dump. Dumping is when you take the footage footage from the camera and put it on the computer. Ms.Katz throughly went through the steps and procedures of how to correctly dump on the computers, using Pinnacle Studies 18 or 19. She also made clear, how to put the SD card reader in the USB, how make a folder on the desktop and label it to move all the footage over to a folder on the desktop. The purpose of this was so that our footage was saved someplace safe. More on she got into, what do do if you couldn’t find your footage on the computer (( go on private and click AVCHD then BDMV)). I also learned that i could dump at home, with the USD cord that’s in the camera bag and bring it to school on a flash drive. We where also educated on how to import from desktop to pinnacle studios. I saw how she looked for the folder and clicked the plus button to import it, also how the raw footage was on the screen waiting to be edited. Me.Katz continued by, clicking on footage and clicking the razor blade to split the footage that she didn’t want (( making sure it was yellow before she hit delete )) .
Towards the end of her demonstration Ms.Katz showed how to cut up, and change footage. How to build on A.V. track 2 and each layer with a different track. She showed how to right click to open the affect editors and all the transitions, and how to add music from youtube. All in all today I learned a lot of new things I’d never thought i would use or have knowledge of . I look forward to using the skills Ms.Katz taught us next week when we continue on our commercials.
