still filming and editing

Hey guys today we continued filming some more. Another stressful day with filming. Today we had help from both of Aaliyah parents. She had my dad dress in all black and a hat. Which was hilarious. He was supposed to be portrayed as a robber. For this part we had to use a long shot, to capture everything. Since this scene was mainly focused on him I was able to record these takes. It only took us a couple of takes. When her dad was walking around the house looking for her  (Stephanie) I used a high angle. I know  you're probably wondering how. Well I stood on the top of her stairs and stretched my arms as far as possible. This made it look like a high angle which was the goal I was aiming for. Aaliyahs dad forgot some of his lines so we had to film many takes until he got it right. I have to say there were lots of bloopers. After we did that Aaliyah switched back into her clothes and started filming the next scene. In this scene she was in the room listening to music while packing my luggage. This was right before the action happened. For this scene there was no dialogue which made it easier to film. I used a long shot and a mid shot for this scene because I wanted the luggage to be shown but not at all times. Aaliyah mom assisted during this scene as well. She had her call our house phone. She did this so that it would ring and Aaliyah would pick it up. This is where the suspense started to build up. After picking up the phone several times she heard nothing, this happened a few times before the climax was set into motion. When she grab a knife I make sure to get a close up of this to add emphasis. Eventually the action scene takes place. I used a zoom shot and a tracking shot for this. When she saw her killers face that's when the zoom shot was used. After this the camera was extremely shaky. Due to the tracking shot. I had to run downstairs and her sister was filming so she did also. When running I also used a hand held shot. I did this to show my face while running. After this another action scene will occur between my dad and I. In the end he will kill her and flee the scene.

re-filming the beginning

Hey guys I’m back again with another update. We’re slowly making progress with the film. Today we filmed the 2 scenes. The scenes that we filmed were the scenes where Aaliyah was entering the house and was walking upstairs. Last time she’d filmed she stopped filming right at her front door. We used a close up shot for this to show my hand movements as Aaliyah opened the door. More on we acquired  new filming equipment. Today was Christmas and Aaliyah got a new ring light. This would be useful to us for lighting.  I also got a small tripod. We used the tripod for many close up scenes or scenes with Aaliyah walking. To continue, Christmas was a good day. Today we had to film many scenes to stay on track. We used a tracking shot. This was because Aaliyah kept walking in many scenes today. For example, the scene when she was walking in my hallway and the stairs I had to use a tracking shot to track her movements. When we finally began to film her entering my room that's where it started to get difficult. The angles were kind of hard to get but we made it work. Aaliyah had her younger sister stand in a far corner in my room to record her entering, as i directed her around the room.It looked as if we filmed this part using a wide shot. When she opened her closet I used an over the shoulder angle which switched to a trunk shot. We wanted the audience to see two different perspectives and I have a good feeling we achieved this. We’ve decided to film certain scenes on her younger sisters ipad pro. We  decided this because it carries more storage than a phone and it also had a great camera. For scenes that require hand held shots then of course I'll use my phone. I can't believe I spent Christmas afternoon filming, however it was a very productive day.

Filming our first Scene

Hey guys we're finally on winter break!! Christmas is right around the corner. But it also means that my partner and I are back to filming. We decided to split the filming and editing process. I will be editing the entire movie from my home and Aaliyah will be filming everything. Of course, I will be assisting with the filming process. And giving my input, we still have to work as a team. So today Aaliyah talked to me as she pulled out our storyboard. After reviewing and discussing it, we decided that she should start filming the first scene. In this scene she would be getting into a car and driving while having a conversation. Aaliyah doesn’t have her licenses yet, however she has her permit. We had to make sure while she was driving today that someone over 21 was with her. We discussed what she should wear. Since her character was a lawyer we decided she should dress business casual outfit. She also had her younger sister record everything. She explained to me that she used a tracking shot when she was walking into the car. She recalled recording several takes for this part because she  had to make sure not to get her house in the background. The goal was to make it seem like she was just getting off of work. In the car she told me she used a wide shot so that the entire background could be seen. she continued to drive around her neighborhood rather than the main roads. This was because she’s not a really experienced driver. During this time she was talking to her self. She did this on the phone to make it seem like she was having a conversation with Briana, Stephanie's (aaliyah) bestfriend. After recording several takes and driving around her  neighborhood for a good 5 times aaliyah had finally pulled into my driveway. For this scene she used an establishing shot from the front and back. She explained that she  did this because she didn't want the licenses plate in the movie. This was basically everything that she filmed today and reviewed with me today

Finding an Editing Software

Hey guys today was another day of us not filming. However, we did get some things done. Before we decided to put a hold on our filming schedule we already began to  film some scenes. We had also started to edit. Even though we started to edit we didn't get as far as we wanted to. Do my partner Aaliyah decided to review our footage today.  After she looked over the footage we had she decided to start re editing. We wanted to fix what was already edited. She began telling me how she normally uses iMovie to edit. iMovie is a great editing software on apple devices. However she also wanted to use other editing software as well. So we did some research of our own. We set out to find a new softwares.  Aaliyah ended up finding an app called "Videoleap Video Editor". It was basically described as a free video editing app. On this app she was able to combine different video clips together and add thing such as special effects. I think this is really going to help us when editing. We never planned on using any special effects. On the app there was a variety of effects, so now we might want to add some in. Aaliyah told me how she started combining the footage and it looked great. However, she wasn't able to figure out how to insert music with this app. I told her we should use youtube to figure it out. But she  thought we might have to use iMovie for that. Although, we didn't get any filming done today we still managed to have a somewhat productive day. I can't wait to see the final product of our film!

Going Back Into Planning

So today was another long day of not filming. My partner and I thought today was the day to start. We’ve come a simple conclusion. We decided to continue our filming process  over winter break. We feel like that gives us more time to film how we want. In addition make sure everything is accurate. I can say, this year I’ve faced a lot of complications when it was time to start filming. Last year was nothing like this. I don’t know if it’s because of all the restrictions in place, but this is turning out to be difficult. Today we decided to look over our storyboard and make sure everything was okay. When we thought through our story we found a few holes. So of course changes were made to our storyboard. We decided to tweak our murder scene. We felt the way we had it set up before wasn’t realistic. It seemed as though the audience could guess what would happen in our murder scene. Since this was a thriller and we’re suppose to create suspense this had to change. There was a lot of foreshadowing in the scene. In addition, reading over our interrogation scene we decided to alter it. It wasn’t a drastic change at all. We decided to change the dialogue between our characters in that scene. I think all the changes we made today will hopefully better our film. Giving the film, the thriller feel we want it to have and nothing less.

Starting the Editing Process

Hey guys, we haven't started filming just yet. This is due to reasons mentioned in the previous blogs. Anyways we have started to work on other things. For example, we have been editing and finding music for our film. You're probably wondering how we started editing already if we have no footage. Well to answer that question, we started to edit the title page. We've also started to work on adding words in between flashback scenes of our movie. We decided to do this so the viewers won't be confused when time goes back during the film. For example, during a flashback scene we plan to put words such as "earlier this week". Things like that will alert the audience that this particular event occurred before the present scene taking place. While doing this we realized our film needed background music. We wanted music during the suspicious scenes. Another thing that we wanted was music during the ending of the movie. Obviously we would have to get permission from any artist that we choose to use music from. We have to do that unless we're able to find free music that fits our film. We're currently looking for music that have the audience anxious and on edge. I think if we do this it would make our film 10 times better. Our main goal for this movie is to give our viewers a feeling of suspense and excitement mixed together. While the plot is slowly building towards the climax of our movie we want the audience to literally be on the edge of their seats. Hopefully we'll have music picked out by the time we start to put all of our footage together and edit it.

starting to film ? or are we ?

Well today we came to the conclusion that we should start filming. We’ve been planning for weeks and anticipating. Of course we have a few obstacles in our way. But we came up with a few ideas. Currently, our parents are going crazy over the thought of us going out to film. I can’t say I blame them, but things need to be done. We’ve came to the realization that we can film. And film safely, with precautions. Since we aren’t able to get camera from school, we decided to use our phones. Besides this being an inconvenience I think this is a good thing. Our phones are less likely to have germs on them than the camera. In addition our phones are easier to operate. The only question is weather or not the end results will be the same. We have a few hindering thoughts on the end result of our film. We’re still trying to figure out all the kinks of our plan. For example, how we’re going to edit. Since we’re not in school we can’t use the free editing software. Most of the editing software's we looked over carry watermarks. We really don’t want that on our finished product. I feel like we will find a solution to this problem and everything will go as planned

how we didn’t film !!

Hey guys I can’t believe we’re in December already. We just came back from a week long Thanksgiving break. Although we wanted to film over the break unfortunately we couldn’t. We both had busy schedules. Also I had friends and family stay with me during the break. Even though we weren’t able to film we did get some things done a couple of days before the break started. For example, we finally launched the website for our film “Who did it?”. Our website has several things on it. It has information on the movie. It also has social media links to our film. We did this to give our fans the option to keep up with the making of our movie by following our social media accounts. Moreover, we plan to film during winter break because that would work best for the both of us. We have midterms coming up. Because of this we decided to prioritize studying for our exams first and then filming. We also plan to edit over the break as well. I think our biggest issue is figuring out how to film. COVID cases have recently been rising again. Due to this are parents want us to social distance as much as possible. Hopefully we’ll be able to meet up and film while following the social distancing rules. If not then we know how to accommodate. We will just film different scene separately. Afterwards we’ll just edit everything over the phone. Hopefully we’ll have a better update next time.

Creating My Website

Hey guys we finally started opening our social media accounts. We also created our website. In order to create our website we used

wix.com

. It's basically a website that allows you to create and personalize your own website. We had to create social media accounts to link to our websites. We now have a Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Youtube account for our movie. Oh by the way we decided to title our movie "Who did it?". On the website we were required to put different information about the film. For example, its release date. When you first open our website you will see the movie title. Below that the directors names are stated as well as the movies release date. The release date is set to be

on 1/11/2021

. That's approximately 2 months from now guys. We're so ready to start filming! Furthermore, you will see what our movie is about and also some critic remarks. Some of the remarks say things such as "the movie held my attention the whole time". On our website you'll also be able to find links that lead to all of our social media accounts. We will use these accounts to keep people updated on the movie until it is released. We decided to have our film premier at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival. On our website we needed to include pictures of the cast and crew. We used our school ID photos for this. This is basically most of the things that we incorporated into our website when creating it.

Storyboard

Hey guys, we finally started to draw our storyboard. I can definitely say it's been fun but the drawing has been kind of difficult. We drew our storyboard according to the order of events in our script. The first three boxes show Stephanie making her way home from work. In the first scene she is in the car speaking to her friend Briana. Once we make it to the second box it shows Stephanie making it home and walking into her home. The following boxes show Stephanie walking into her home and heading upstairs. In the fourth box on the storyboard that's when Stephanie starts to hear the phone ring. Throughout the next few boxes Stephanie will be very cautious and paranoid because of the suspicious phone calls. In box 5 Stephanie answers the phone and holds a short conversation that will leave her in a state of confusion. In box 6 Stephanie grabs a knife. Even though she does this she is completely unaware of the killer being inside of her bathroom. In the next box the phone will ring again and Stephanie answers it. Except this time the killer is standing right behind her. The next few boxes are the action scenes. After realizing that someone is trying to kill her Stephanie fights back. As seen in the boxes she kicks the killer down the stairs and goes to hide. Even though Stephanie is hidden the killer finds her and murders her. In the boxes after that scene you will see the killer calling Briana to notify her that Stephanie is dead. After this scene the next scene shows Briana coming to Stephanie's home trying to make it seem like all of this is news to her. In the next boxes the police arrive and conversation  with Briana. After this the flash backs from earlier that week will begin to happen.

Planning Blog

Hey guys we're so close to getting ready to film. But before we an do that we have to plan. We decided to start planning by coming up with a filming and editing schedule. Due to the current circumstances that we're under because of covid 19 our filming process is going to be slightly different. We will both be filming different scenes from our own homes every other day of the week (Mon, Wed, Fri). We haven't decided who will get what scenes yet but we will figure that out sometime soon. After we gather all of the footage from those three days we will work together to put the footage together and edit it. There will be two filming locations throughout the whole movie, my house and Jasmines house. During the movie different parts of the homes will be used for different things. For example, my bathroom will be used as to portray the crime scene. There will be several participants. We will be in the film as well as our family members and some friends that we've reached out to. In our film a knife will be used as a weapon which will fall into the health and safety category. The knife will be real but there will be adult supervision the whole time. Some props that we plan on using are knives, guns, and a face mask. These props will most likely only be used during the beginning of the movie when Stephanie (the victim) is murdered. There will multiple costumes featured in the movie. One will be a police uniform. Another costume will be the killers outfit. The killer will be dressed in all black with a scary mask as a disguise. Other costumes that will be featured will be casual clothing that the suspects will be wearing. We're so ready to start filming!!!

Short Film v. Length Film

So now Ive watched the short film “9”, and the film feature film “9”. I can honestly say I like one better than the other. Could you guess which one? Well, in the short film and the feature film the main character nine was amazing. But in the feature film, we got more a feel of “9”. We actually heard him talking to feature film, unlike in the short film. I actually got to watch his character develop in The feature film. While in the short film I did not, since The plot happened so quickly. One thing I liked about the short film, was in fact it’s length. The feature film “9” was lengthy. The short story, left out lots of details that were included in the feature film. For example, the findings of two, and the many conflicts they faced in between the resolution. I enjoyed the feature film better. I think it’s because I, like when stories are explained. I don’t know if this makes sense, but I feel like the feature film explained the pitch better than short film did. I think the short film was phenomenal as well, but it wasn’t as informing or interesting as the feature film. The short film was kind of a bore, mostly because of the no talking. I couldn’t really engage with the film like I did with the feature film. Feature film was, a great catch. I would really recommend these two movies to anyone.

Research 9 Feature film

Today I also watched the feature film 9 on netflix. I’d watched this movie before when I was younger. Although, I didn’t remember the plot. When the movie first started, I wasn’t really interested. But as 9 began to seem adventurous, and tried to help his friends I found the plot interesting. I really liked this movie. 9 at first seemed like he’d do anything he was told. But as the movie progressed, his character changed. He became in my eyes the leader of all the others, even though he was the youngest. 9 lead the others to help save them selves and their friends from the technology monsters. The plot of the movie seemed well thought out. The conflict, and 9’s resolution to the conflict in the story was a great touch.! The characters in the film actually spoke, it was a great touch!  We saw as they developed through out the film. They all seemed scared at first, to go out and observe the monster machines, but 9 eventually persuaded them to.  Special effects in this movie were, ordinary things I seen regular animated movies. Some aspects in the film seems as though they were actual, they seemed real life.  In all, I enjoyed watching this movie for the second time. The characters were interesting, the plot of the film kept me interested, and the edits weren’t corny. “9” was a great film I really suggest it!!

Research 9: The short

Today I watched a short film “9” by Shan Acker. I can honestly say it’s not at all how I expected it to be. I expect a reply to be a little similar to the movie. And I thought the short film would be like the movie, just summed up. As the short film started I thought my audio on my computer was messed up.Eventually I realize the short film had no sound. I can say this is one aspect I did not like.Right away in a short film I recognize 9. The depiction of him was much simplified than in the full movie. 9 is simply a ragdoll that’s adventurous and wants to know more. It was kind of hard to tell what was going on without any audio, but I think I got the idea. Short film seemed incomplete. It seemed like it could have been a pitch for a real movie. Which in fact it was but that’s not the the point. The setting of the dark and eerie feel, kind of like a horror movie but not completely. I feel as the special effects featured in the short film, could have been a little better. Towards the end I seen 9 near a green site, kind of like something that glowed. And I feel like the director could have added more effects, so that the part was interesting. All I enjoyed the short film. Maybe not as much as the movie, but it was still a great thing for me to

Genre choice for film

My partner and I had three genre options to choose for our short film. The three genres were crime, thriller, and drama. While discussing which one we wanted to pick we decided not to do drama. We didn't want to do drama because it didn't really focus on our pitch. After talking to my partner for some time we were stuck between picking  thriller or crime to be the genre that represents our short film. We both agreed that the genres had many similarities that could be used. After discussing it the genre that we choose to go with was crime. We choose this specific genre because our pitch is mainly about a crime being committed. Due to the fact that the genres are so similar we thought it would be a great idea to go with crime because with the crime genre we'll be able to include the features of a thriller movie on our film. For example, we expect our film to give off a suspenseful mood to the audience. We also expect it to keep the viewers  excited and keep their anticipation level extremely high throughout the entire film. While researching we found that a sub genre of the crime genre is a "legal thriller". We were inspired to choose the crime genre out of all three options because we realized that that would be the genre that would best be portrayed in our film. Our pitch was "A lady supposedly goes on vacation and when her house is broken into her body is found floating in the pool". At the time we thought the pool would be the best place for the lady to be found. Now we realized we most likely will have to change that part of our pitch. Neither of us have access to a pool right now. Since we don't have access to a pool we decided to say that the womans lifeless body will be found in a bathtub. This is not a big tweak so it shouldn't affect our pitch too much. If we are able to gain access to a pool when it comes time to film we'll make sure to keep a note of that.

Genre research - crime, triller,drama

A genre were going to explore is the crime or criminal genre. Common CAMS in the criminal genre include high and low angled shots, close-ups, extreme close ups, dolly zooms, dolly movement, and handheld shots. Common sounds in criminal thriller genre include soundtracks, diegetic sounds, non-diegetic sounds, ambient sounds, sound bridges, dialogue, and incidental music. Common Mis en scene in this genre include, lighting, actors, make-up, props, and settings (in mysterious places).  Common editing technical used in this genre consist of dissolve transitions, montages, fade outs/ins, cut always, and jump cuts. Example Films include the movies “Rope”, “Dial M for murder”, and “The silence of the lambs”. Elements of the genre I like is the suspense that comes from the conflict, the foreshadowing, and when the crimes are solved.

Elements of the genre that do not appeal to me are the fact that you can sometimes tell how the story will

end. I like to be surprised, and these type of films aren’t really suspenseful.

/

The second genre we’re going to explore is the thriller genre. A thriller is a suspense film the evokes excitement and suspense in the audience. Lightings used in thriller movies are key lighting, under lighting, and filler light. Common camera angles and shots in thrillers are high angle shots, low angle shots, canted angles, wide shots, and panning shots. Characteristics of common sounds found in the thriller genre, is dark and eerie sounds. The music starts in a slow pace at first whilst gradually speeding up the pace helping to create the tension and build climax.  Common Mis En Scene in thriller, weapons art the common props in fight scenes, which are commonly used to create tension. The thriller genre uses the elements of story(action), plot, character and setting. The story in thrillers uses tension and excitement to stimulate the viewers moods. Examples of this genre consist of Get Out, Taken, Seven, and Unknown. Thriller films are enjoyed because it keeps the audience at the end of their seats and build suspense and tension, it entertains the audience and engages them through the film.

Finally the last genre we're going to research is the drama genre. Common camera angles, and shots in this genre are long shots, close-ups, two-shots, and over-the shoulder shots. Continually, common camera movements include tilts, zooms, and dolly's. Characteristics of common sounds found in this genre are dialogue, sound effects, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. Common Mis En Scene in the drama genre include, costumes, lighting, actors of course, make-up and props. Common editing skills used in this genre, to elaborate its stories are jump cuts, split screens, cut away's, and fade outs. Examples of drama films include, “The Godfather”, “Boogie Nights”, and “12 Angry Men”. Elements from this genre I find appealing are the serious presentations the movies are presented in. An element that does not appeal to me is the fact that throughout the film we have to worry about the main characters mental state. It’s not something I personally find interesting.

Genres I would Like to research

Today we’ve chosen 3 genres we want to research. We chose these three by picking ones that are similar with our pitch. We wanted to place our film in a category that made sense. We chose the genres drama, crime, and thriller. We picked the drama genre because it involves a conflict between the characters. In this case this genre would relate to our pitch because the conflict would be between the people who are being suspected of murdering the woman. In our pitch a crime is committed and, it’s going to be solved. The crime genre has multiple sub genres. But most of the films and stories in this drama are about crime investigations. They generally don’t feature or show stuff that happens in the courtroom. The key elements  of this genre include suspense and mystery. This genre relates to our pitch, because it includes a criminal investigation. In order for us to figure out who killed the woman in our pitch a criminal investigation will have to take place. Suspense is also included, as we try to figure out who the killer is. Finally, the  thriller genre. This genre is mainly characterized by the mood it gives off. Known for the suspense it creates, excitement, surprise and anticipation. This goes with our pitch because my part and I would also like to create some sort of tension while telling the story. We don’t want viewers bored while the crime is being figure out, or when we found out the ladies dead . We want that little spin of suspense, And anticipation.
I think picking one genre to put our film under is going to be quite a challenge.

We have our pitch ?

A lady supposedly goes on vacation and when her house is broken into her body is found floating in her pool.

Group Blog

Hey its me again! I know in my last blog I said I was going to work alone but things have changed. Originally I had no idea who was in a level media studies with me. So I decided to work by myself. I thought it would be easier. Less complications. I had a few doubts, but I felt overall I worked better by myself. One day when I was in class, a friend of mine texted me. She asked if I took a level media studies. So I told her yes. I had no idea she had this class. She’s a very nice girl and I’ve worked with her on a project in another class. It was my law class, and I enjoyed working with her. We completed all the work and still had fun at the same time . So when she asked me to be her partner I said yes. I saw a great opportunity. Although we have this class different periods I think we can make it work. We’re two determined intelligent females and I think that this is the start of something good. My only concern is what we’re going to do when it comes to filming. But I’m sure we’ll work something out.

INTROOOO BLOG!

Hey It’s me again ! Jasmine Jones, the sophomore who took AS level last year? Well, now I’m a Junior. And I’m currently enrolled in the A level course. I figured since I had so much fun with those course last year I should continue in it. Although, it’s not completely the same I think I’ll enjoy A level. Last year was something I never experienced before. This class taught me a lot of things I never thought I’d be interested in. It was different when we went virtually towards the end of the year. But, nonetheless still a great learning opportunity. This year our focus is different from AS level. We’ll be making a short film. Since currently our classes our virtual I don’t even have friends to discuss my ideas with. I think I could do a good job, as a one person team. But I guess only time will tell. However, I’m really excited to see what this A level course has in store for us. I’m sure it’ll be as mind opening as AS level. Hopefully this year I’ll excel in filming and making sure to portray my message clearly. Can’t wait to see what’s in store! Stay tuned for the adventures of me and my filming career.

AUDIENCE AND INSTITUTION practice ESSAY

1. Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied.

Marketing, the business of promoting or selling products, in this case films and or movies. Commerce is an immense factor in getting a film out to its targeted audience. Marketing in the filming industry is important, because it’s how people find out about the film or movie, and it determines if a film is going to be successful or not.

Admittedly, marketing in the film industry is important because it’s how people/viewers find out about the films. In the case study I read, (Cinema and Marketing: When Cultural Demands Meet Industrustrial Practices) it states “People may go to Cinemas now and then to have a good time or try to forget about their worries, but the average cinema goer rarely goes to see a specific film”. With this in mind think about how effective marketing of a specific movie would change the statistics. If the movie was marketed Adequately people would actually go just to see that specific movie .Consequently, this is where the importance of marketing comes in. The film has to be suitably presented to the movie goers or viewers in an entrancing way. The marketing team could advertise the movie effectively by getting the film advertised on well known sites, apps or places. I know for a fact, anytime I go to see a movie is when I see it advertised on YouTube or maybe Instagram. The ad has to be interesting to me, something I want to spend my money to watch in theatres.  I don’t think I’ve ever watched a movie, when I thought the trailer was boring or I was uninterested in. Continuously, Sandra Echeverri from the study ‘Cineuropa’ clarifies “ The objective is to approach diverse audiences through social media networks and to create an engagement with a younger audience as well as convincing fans and moviegoers to talk about the movies on social media”. In fact the effective marketing on different platforms, social media especially included could bolster how people detect the film. For example, if you were to advertise a movie on Snapchat, with filters and various proactive ads the users of the app would want to watch the movie or think about watching the movie. In another scenario they would ask or tell their friends on the app about it. Which in turn would lead to more and more people finding out about that film, and becoming interested in it. But this outcome is only achievable if you market the film effectively.

Furthermore, The marketing of a film is important because it determines if the film is going to be successful or not. Namely, as the writer from the study ‘Production Hub’ explains, “ your movie could be incredible, but unless people know about it and are compelled to go and see it, it will never be successful.” Without a doubt, not marketing your film could have very negative effects. how are people going to know it’s out, or know about it if it has not been marketed or advertised. That’s basically just putting out a movie, without getting word out about the movie. Which is going to be pointless because no one‘s going to be in the theater to watch the movie. Personally, there are lots of movies that I’ve seen at the movies that were out, but I didn’t know about them before I saw them in the theater. I’d never seen an ad for the movie or a poster or commercial, which is exactly why I didn’t know it was out. In those moments I think, are these movies not important ?or maybe they’re boring, maybe that’s why they weren’t advertised. In hindsight if you were to market said movie excellently, the results would be superior compared to if the movie had not been marketed at all. In fact, it’s proven that more viewers will watch the movie. Also, in another case study I read( Marketing And consumption of art products: the movie industry) “After the completion of a movie, promotion activities are carried out to reach audiences at this point, promotional tools made directly affect people's decision“ This is important, because it establishes the idea that after marketing, the feedback or reaction they receive from their audience or moviegoers determines if the film will be prosperous or not. For example, a new film's marketing team decided to post it’s trailer on YouTube to see what feedback they’d receive. Let’s say when the viewers or audience viewed the trailer they disliked it. The marketing team would know then, that means there’s not a great chance that the film would do good in theaters. They would also come to the conclusion that they did not market the film in the most appealing way. As a result, the marketing team would do more market research so that their film is marketed to their audiences attentively.

In conclusion, The importance of marketing in a film is vital for many reasons. Personally I chose to explain it was important because it's how people find out about the films and it determines if the films are going to be successful or not. Next time you watch a movie, think about if you’ve seen an ad for it on Snapchat, Instagram, a website that you were browsing on or even a poster. Think about if that’s the reason you went to see the movie, if you say yes then the marketing team for that specific film has done their job effectively. And that’s the importance of marketing in film.

Extract Practice : 24

From watching the extract the theme I received was that in strenuous situations, provoking someone isn’t the way to get what you want.

The extract constructs meaning through the sounds, with diegetic sounds when the brunette with the short hair, Nina is sitting in the chair and she couldn’t breath because the man with the short blond hair,Jake choked her. The sound from her choking constructs meaning by showing what happens after Nina provoked Jack, the outcome of her constructive ways. Another way, the extract constructs helpful meaning through the sounds is with the use of the dialogue. When Nina the “traitor” was demanding what it is she wants from Jack. This helps show how Nina acquires to agitate Jack while trying to get what she wants.

In addition, the extract constructs meaning with the use of Mis en Scene. To be more exact the props, the table that Jack threw, and the chair that Nina was sitting in when he pushed it back. This shows when Jack finally lost his temper with Nina. When he was fed up with what she had verbalized. The extract constructs meaning with the use of Mis en Scene with -in the set design. The set consists of Nina sitting down handcuffed with Jack across from her questioning her. This showed how Nina is desperate and powerless in the situation and Jim had the capability to grant her demands.

To continue, the extract conducts my theme’s meaning with its use of camera angles. The extract uses the low angle when Nina is talking to Jack telling him things he doesn’t want to hear, things that infuriate him. This helped show how Nina was provoking Jake. Also, with the use of the pan shot. This was used while the two were sitting in the questioning room going back and forth. This showed the hostility and tension that was involved in Jack and Nina’s exchange.

Lastly, the extract constructs my theme’s meaning with the editing that was used. The cross-cutting, between the questioning room and the other watching that was going on in there. This showed all the unease the others had watching the inquisition between Jack and Nina. The shot/reverse shot cutting back and forth between Jack and Nina showed each of them reacting to what the other said. This also showed the tension that was building up.

To recap the extract constructs my theme “ In strenuous situations, provoking someone isn’t the way to get what you want” with its use of sounds, mis en scene, camera angles, and editing. The sounds being Diegetic, and dialogue. The Mis en scene consisting of props, and set design. The camera angles including low angles, and pan shots. And the editing including cross cutting and shot/reverse shot.

Re-Edit Blog

For the past few days I've been in the house. Not for fun, but safety precautions. Ever since the outbreak of the corona virus I haven't been able to do anything. It's been a real bummer. I can't come in contact with others. I can't be outside or in public areas. My group mates are experiencing the same thing. This epidemic literally halted the world around me. Everything I used to do, I can't anymore. Since we were not able, to re-film it made re-editing difficult. My group mates and I brainstormed on what to do. We had to continue this project. Even with all that was going on. We kept discussing and started talking about ways to edit at home. We couldn't use iMovie. This editing app, made our videos come out funny looking. So, we all looked up different editing apps to consider. This was hard. Only because we did not know anything about these apps. We all sent the apps we'd found, and the reviews on the apps.

Re-Shooting Blog

So today we were supposed to reshoot. We made plans about this re-shooting schedule the week before. We make sure everybody was able and available for that day. And everyone’s schedule with me together.  because we had to make sure that nothing messed this up. Unfortunately, our plans for the re-shoot where cancelled. That Friday my roommates and I talked about how we’re going to feel the next day. But that day I had constantly heard that we might not have school next week. Which is exactly why we decided to re-shoot on Saturday. Later on that Friday, my mom told me that I had to stay in the house for the next couple of days. I had told her that we were supposed to shoot for Saturday, but she said it wasn’t safe. She continued to go on. She explain to me what was going on with school clothing and me having to stay in the house. It was because of the coronavirus. She explain that it was contagious. And that people couldn’t tell if they had it, which is why she didn’t want me to go out and film.  I proceeded to text my group chat and ask my group mates  about the coronavirus. They all said that they couldn’t come either. I wondered what we were going to do. There wasn’t much we could do since we couldn’t go out to film. I understood the safety precaution everyone was taking.

Editing Continues

Today my group mates and I continued our editing process. When I walked into class, I grabbed a computer. As I patiently waited on my group mates to come I opened up pinnacle studios. When I clicked the icon it loaded for a good 3 minuets before it opened. When it finally opened, one of my group mates came in. I asked her if she had the drive with all the footage, and she handed it to me. I then placed the drive into the computer, and waited. I was waiting for the file to pop up but, the pinnacle studios application was still loading. So since now all my group mates were in class we started talking. We were discussing what was left to edit. To my knowledge there wasn't much to do. But that was just my opinion. When the file finally popped up on the screen, we opened it. We had decided to watch what we had edited so far. As we watched what we edited so far I pulled out my storyboard. This was so I knew what angles, were missing. In addition so I could see if what we had matched up with the storyboard. The two were in correlation. I just didn't like how some of our angles were portrayed in the film. So I suggested that we look over the other scenes we had that would show the camera angles crisply.

Filming Continues

Today was another day of filming for my group and I. We experienced so many difficulties today. It almost seemed as if it was impossible for us to film. It all started, when we got there. There wasn’t a lot of cars in the parking lot so we decided to set up. As we set up the tri pod a few bystanders would pass by and look. We didn’t pay attention and we just started the film. I noticed one lady Who sat on the truck or her car and watched us. When I realize she was watching us I pointed it out to my group mate. She told me to just ignore that and go on with the script. As we started to reenact our scene I overheard the woman asking what where we doing and did we had permission. Needless to say, she wasn’t the only one that was complaining. Other bystanders did not like the fact that we were using the parking lot while they were trying to drive. So there were a lot of complaints to management. Little did the people who where complaining know, we had permission to film in the stores areas and parking lot. Before we even started filming we asked management to film in the store and the parking area. Since our teachers and aice media told us we had to ask permission before we filmed anywhere that’s what we did. This moment was successful due to us following the instructions  of our teacher. We proceeded to carry out filming the rest of our scenes. There wasn’t much interruptions after this.

Peer Review Blog

Peer Review Day ! it’s here. Today we watched the beginning of our peers film. I’d been looking forward to this since I found out about it. I was excited to see what others had to say about what my group mates and I created. I also wanted to see what my other classmates made. And let me say I was impressed. It was good to see another group of people’s approach to the project. And a fresh set of eyes would be good for the opinions they would give. All I could hope with my project was that, the others that was watching it would like it and think we did good.  I personally thought we did goo. The  film from the other team we watched was very interesting. I like how the light was presented in this film. The person who was filming made sure to incorporate different camera angles which you could see easily. When I seen a long shot I could easily tell, its like it came natural in the scene. One suggestion I have would be to make the story clearer. They where times when I didn’t understand what was going on in the film. I will be watching it, into it but then I just wouldn’t know what was going on. that’s the only suggestion I have for this group besides that I think everything was good and they’re  techniques were nice.

So it Begins : Editing

Today we started editing. Everyone already knows this takes the LONGEST to do. Not because it’s difficult, but the software operates slowly. The goal behind this day of editing was to put the scenes in the order we wanted them. Also to clip what parts we wanted to use. After previous experiences using   iMovie to edit we realized that was a bad decision. Although it took less time to use, the final product came out grainy. Our final product would not be clear using iMovie so we decided let’s stick to pinnacle studios. So that’s exactly what we did. Sadly I dearly missed iMovie. So we plugged our flash drive into the computer while pinnacle studios was already opened. We watched as our footage popped up. I suggested we watch the different takes of the scenes to see which where the best. To admit, I had fun doing this. Making the movie was so much fun, and it was a good moment to go back and see our bloopers. We picked the takes of the scenes that had refined angles, and lighting. We then started to clip the scenes to use how much we wanted. This took long because as the video played back it was lagging. The video played in slow motion so it was hard to tell how much we should use.  This really bothered me because my partners and I all had different opinions about where to cut the films.

Filming : Inside The Store

After filming outside the supermarket, we proceeded to walk inside. We wanted, to get the beginning of the film. This was when, the girls walked in the store. They where conversing before they got into the actual script. We started off by the doors that opened as they sensed you. We wanted to make it seem like we'd just walked in the story. After, we walked through the doors I started saying my part of the script. To make is less dull, I touched things in the aisle as I walked through the store. We'd filmed this scene at least 5 times before we moved on to the next. I felt a little weird, because bystanders were watching but we had a job to do.  I had fun filming in the store. It wasn't even like I was acting, I talked like I was with a friend. Even though a friend wouldn't make you repeat the same thing 27 times. We started walking through the store to find another place to do the second scene. We wanted an area with less shoppers, but enough so the scene looked realistic. We shot in a aisle that wasn't very busy. This time it was my turn to disappear. The camera focused on Jushe and her walking the store. This all led up to her wondering where I was. I watched patiently as Dwana shot the scenes of Jushe.

Filming Continued

Today was our first successful day. This morning before, we started filming I had to retrieve a pass. It was for my group mates to ride my bus home. This was a long process. We had to get the signed permission of administration, and the permission of parents. After, getting the OK for the bus situation we devised a plan for after school. After school, Jushe, Dwana, and I met at the vending machine and walked to my bus. As we got on my bus my bus driver asked who these two girls where, I explained and she let them on the bus. We waited till it was my turn to get off the bus. This took about an hour. We where a little hungry so we went to taco bell. After a good 20 minuets of eating we walked to the Walmart. We then started to film. Dwana and I, set up the tri-pod and we realized one of the legs where broke. So Dwana held the camera as Jushe and I walked toward the center of the parking lot. We then started to walk and talk as we entered the Walmart. We shot this scene at least times. Each time we shot there was a new disturbance, that walked in our scene. Eventually we got a perfect shot. This consisted of the time we spent outside the facility shooting.

Filming Blog : First Attempt

So today was February 14, 2020 the first day of filming for my group mates, and I. A couple weeks before we had planned, the events that where suppose to take place today. Can I just say, I've realized when I plan things out they never execute correctly. My group mates, and I where suppose to meet up after school and drive to the Walmart on 4-41. Where we were suppose to start filming our first few scenes. Soon as the 12:40 bell rang indicating that school was I rushed to the top of building 5. When I got up there I saw Dwana and Jushe' ready to go. We talked for a good few minuets about how we were going to film in the Walmart. After 10 minuets passed I asked " Where's Jahleel ? ". He was apart of our scenes we were suppose to film, and our ride. Suddenly all of our phones dinged. Little did we know all of our plans had been changed. It was our group chat, with a message from Jahleel. The message read " Sorry, we can't film today, I have a track meet in Miami ". After reading the message I was massively disappointed. It was valentines day, and I had cleared my whole afternoon to film. Jushe'
, Dwana, and I all stared at each other wondering what we should do now, but there was no way to film. Our kidnapper, Jahleel wouldn't be there, and he was a big part of the story. We decided it was best to go home, and try again on another day. Now we had to reschedule, and pick a day that was best for everyone. Let me tell you, this was a very hard process since we all had different stuff going on.

Storyboard Blog

The Storyboard was definitely the hardest part of doing this final task so far. We all sat together the first cars trying to figure out how we were going to put the scenes into pictures to make it 10 pages. The shooting script made it somewhat easy but it was still hard. We were drawing up the mock pictures we’re trying to come up with the best way to accurately describe the scene so that the viewer would understand what was going on. We all decided that we couldn’t draw, at all. So we’re trying our best to make the scenes come to life. We then realized that we wouldn’t have enough scenes to cover 10 pages. So for the first 30 seconds we added a new beginning. Towards the middle of the beginning sequence we added more so we were able to hit the two minute mark. This was definitely nerve-racking while we were drawing because we were afraid that we wouldn’t make the time limit required. We are jam it’s happy to have this part of the planning done so we can finally start filming.

Planning Title Design

One of our biggest concerns was finding out our title design. No film is complete without the perfect opening sequence, so we wanted to do something that fit the originality of our film perfectly. We decided to do a simple theme, all black. We didn't want our sequence to be too dramatic, we just wanted it to be calm and mysterious. Important words will be Bold and In ALL CAPS, the Bree Serif font was perfect for this. We wanted to do this so that the audience would be able to identify all the important people that contributed to the film. We decided to give our film the name "Vanished"; the titles are going to appear on the screen as if they are being typed out, then they'll vanish with a quickness.

Planning blog location sound participants health schedule

For this part of planning we had to think about all the tiny details that go into filming. This was one of the easier parts of planning because you just have to state who the actors were and what the location of our film was. The hardest part was thinking of all the health and safety precautions. While we are trying to think of everything that might cause injury. We realized that we were doing a kidnapping scene in broad daylight with people around. We thought that people seeing the camera might realize it’s not real, but with today's society you never. Our plan is to show that it is a school project by showing the instructions for the project and our school IDs and hopefully that will solve the problem. This is one of the final steps we are taking before we can start filming and it’s so Exciting

Shooting script

This past couple of days we’ve been working on our shooting script. This has not been an easy process. The same day it was assigned I started working on it because I did not want to rush it. Well that plan kind of a success cause we were able to get all the scenes that we wanted down. However I did not start making it into a google PowerPoint until the following class. This is where I started to regret not choosing to do the sound script. Making a script without sound is hard by the way. We were trying to figure out how to play out the scenes without saying what the characters were going to say. In all honesty trying to get all the details into words was the hardest part. However with the trouble we had coming up with the script we are going to be able to film based almost solely on it.

Sound Script

This power point is based on the sounds that are going to be put in our opening scene. We incorporated dialogue, incidental music, diegetic sounds and much more. Our Sound script consists of the things that led up to the kidnapping. The talking in the store and in the check out line. We used incidental music to build up the suspense and make the audience want to see more. We used the dialogue to draw out the scenes that’s led up to the kidnapping. This powerpoint simply outlines the big picture we’re trying to paint. This is just a small piece of our film. It’s an important part of the opening film, and hopefully it makes the viewers want to continue watching. Now as we go through the process of filming our script will be ready.

Title Research: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

During the opening sequence of this film “kiss kiss bang bang” there was 23 titles displayed throughout the outset. In the opening, pictures of guns blood dripping, an animated person running around. animated buildings was prioritized. I think these images carry the connotation  of someone escaping from the city, maybe, or a solicited place and the affect of the person escaping is killing, bloodshed or maybe violence. The genre is reinforced to this title opening sequence because it creates a suspenseful atmosphere, A technical coda that most thriller films outset’s have. This outset created a sense of enigma differently from the other title sequences I watched. In the previous opening sequences I’ve watched enigma is usually create it was the end of the opening, in this film opening the enigma was created in the beginning, with the animated man running around. We wanted to know why he was running ? who he was running from and was he safe ? The opening sequence uses suspense to draw in its audience. The audience of thriller movies love suspense, they find joy in not knowing what’s going to happen next and that’s exactly what this opening sequence displayed. Thr use of technology this title opening sequence was mostly editing. The editing told a story itself the animated man that was running around with the animated building, The director edit it to where the audience, would perceive that the man was running from someone.  but, in doing so the director made a suspenseful. The audience wants to know why is the man running and  who is he running from.
This title opening sequence came from the site www.watchthetitle.com

Title Research : Get out

  1. There are 21 titles that are displayed into the 2 minute opening sequence
  2. In the opening there are a lot of trees and wind. Towards the end of the 2 minutes you start to see things like people, animals, and cars.
  3. From the images the audience is able to infer that something is going to happen. The images give off an eerie feeling.
  4. The beginning made us feel like we were going on a road trip and looking out the window.
  5. The genre is reinforced through the uneasiness; the movie is foreshadowed by the opening sequence.
  6. The uses the lack of music in the beginning of the opening sequence to entice viewers to continue watching. The missing music makes viewers wonder why there isn't any music
