Editing Blog

Today we starting editing our music video. We use the song Love Don’t Change by Jeremiah. It’s an RnB love song, and we wanted our video to portray a message of love.  When i walked in class my team mates had already grabbed a computer for us to use. They where logging into there ID so we could go onto pinnacle studios. I already knew this editing process was going to take long. I remember how during our previous project it would freeze up. So while the computer loaded pinnacle studios, my teammates and I talked about what shots we thought we should use. This was a very mind opening conversation since, I didn’t think about what elements would place well with the song. After talking for a good 5 minuets, we where all in agreement. Now we where ready to edit.

After patiently waiting on pinnacle studios to load it popped up. So I took the flash drive and put it in the computer. This was where all our footage was. I got on the computer and deleted the sample footage. One of my teammates clicked the import button and we saw another tab pop up. We clicked the folder with our flash drive name on it. I then imported the stuff from the flash drive onto pinnacle studios. It took a great deal of time for the files to finish copying.  When the files finished copying the video was ready to be edited. Now it was time to decide what footage we wanted to keep.

I dragged the scenes slowly to the editing strip. Then we trimmed a few seconds off each scene. Suddenly I hear that class is almost over. My brain stopped for a second. We had just started editing and class was almost over. So my group mates decided to edit on Imovie. We had to edit when we got home that night. So When I got home that night I called my group mates. We talked as one of our group mates edited the scenes on her phone. It seemed easier this way, rather then using pinnacle studios. After we finished editing, my group mate sent the video to all of us, so we could look over it.

Filming Blog

After a few long days of crucial planning I started filming for my music video. The process of filming this time around was not as exciting. There where a few bumps in the road, which we overcame. Filming took us a good three days to do and I feel it went successfully even with all the down sides. From my group mates and their variety of opinions to choosing the exact spots we wanted our shots on the beach. Of course all these decisions where very time consuming, so we had to keep it moving. Overall I can say filming wasn’t all that bad. I got to shoot in an area that wasn’t school. This was a very insightful and informative moment for me. Anyways let’s getting into our filming process

So first we went to the mattress store. We walked around to canvas the area. After a few minutes we found a couple spots we thought would be nice to use. So one of my group mates asked a employee for the manager. When the manager was found, we asked permission to film in the store. All I could think in that moment was the worst. “ What if the manager says no” , “ This is going to be a disaster”. Truthfully my stomach was in knots while waiting on the mangers response. Once we got the okay to film we set up the camera in one of the bed room settings. We used the tripod to get a better angle of our two actresses on the bed with little camera movement. This method was a success, our take in the bedroom setting was a great success.

After our first take in the bedroom setting we found a kitchen setting to film in. This was going to be the part in the video where the male RnB singer was cooking his love breakfast. This shot took a couple tries. I would suggest a shot to get of the make RnB singers face, and my group mate would say another. Eventually we found a shot we all agreed on. More on, to me when we shot at the beach was the real fun. We shot at fort lauderdale beach, it was so beautiful. We shot our male RnB singer walked down the beach reminiscing about the good times with his love. We tried to get the sun going down in our video, but unfortunately that didn’t work. All in all, our filming process had a great turn out. I can’t wait to edit now.

Film Blog

Now where going into our filming process. It took us so long to find a song, and a agree on it. But it took us even longer to come up with the concept of our video. I for one am not to thrilled about the decisions that where made during the discussion. My partners and I are continually in conflict about what we should do and how we should film it. We decided to film at the beach. I know what your thinking, how cliche. Well I said the same, i’m desperate to see how the shooting of our music video turns out. In my opinion I didn’t think the beach was the best setting for the video. But it’s a group effort and majority rules.

After choosing a place to film, we had to create a schedule that everyone could work around. We decided to shoot closer to school. This was so it was easier for us to get home afterwards. Especially considering since my mom works she couldn’t pick me up afterward. We planned to film for two days instead of one, so we could have more footage to work with while editing. I hope nothing interferes with our two days of filming. My group mate seem like pretty busy people. We picked the Monday and Tuesday we got back from Thanksgiving break to film. We where going to film this week, but there was no way for me and another group mate to get home. And we couldn’t film during Thanksgiving since another member and I weren’t going to be in town. So we figured the Monday and Tuesday we come back would work best.

After school on the Monday we get back we’d go to the mattress store. If you’re wondering why were going there, it’s to film our male RnB singer in a house like kitchen. As I stated in an earlier blog, we’re going to use the furniture in the mattress store as props in our video. We have to ask permission from the manager. Which I hope does not cause difficulties in our filming process. If all goes right during our filming blog, we should be editing on Tuesday also. Our second day of filming, will be the day we’re at the beach. I look forward to see how this day of filming turns out. Hopefully it’s not to windy, or cold.

Storyboard Blog

Since our video is a love song we are going to start off at the beach with our male actor walking on the beach near the rocks so we can get the water crashing on the rocks. For this scene, we wanted to do a medium close up so we can show the beach but also see the actor's facial expression as he is singing. The scene at the beach is going to be approximately 15-20 seconds. In the next scene, we are going to move to the furniture store this scene our this scene because we need a bed and kitchen set up. In this scene, our male actor and female actor will be "sleeping" in the bed then our male actor will sneak out of the bed and go, cook in the kitchen for his girlfriend. After he is done cooking the meal he will bring it to the bedroom where he will wake up our female actor and give her breakfast. This scene is going to be over the shoulder shot to show the kitchen set up. during this scene, our female actor is going to pick up our male actors' phone and see something that is going to make them get in an argument. This scene is most likely going to be a point of view scene that will switch between both actors. The next scene is going to show our female actor storm away this is going to be an eye-level camera angle. The last scene is going to show our male actor grab our female actor and pull her in while singing. This is going to be a 2 person shot. The scene is going to fade out.

Planning Blog for Music Video

Location- Our male RnB actor will be on the beach walking around while having flashbacks of his lover. We also plan to shoot at the mattress store, in the kitchen area. We want a scene where our male actor is cooking for his lover. Additionally we plan to use the beds in the mattress store. We have a big idea for the use of the mattress store. Of course we will need the approval of the managers.

Health and Safety- We plan to make sure a lifeguard is on duty while we’re shooting at the beach, in case anything occurs. Also on the way to the beach and mattress store, we will be wearing our seat belts. We take safety very seriously. In addition to these safety precautions, we will have a buddy system. So if anyone needs to walk off during our filming process someone will be with them. You could never be too safe.

Props- In our music video we don’t really incorporate that many props. Since the traditional R&B videos doesn’t, but we will be using a bed from the mattress store. Also the kitchen appliances in the mattress store. We want the props to give the video a home feel. The mattress store props will make the R&b singer seem as if he’s home, in his own kitchen.

Costumes- Since traditionally R&b male singers wear tights shirts, to be seductive our male actress will to. We’re thinking a white tight tee. We aren’t  completely sure what color yet. The female most likely will be dressed girly, maybe wearing a dress or skirt.

Schedule
On 11/18-11/20 we will be doing our storyboard and planning . On 11/22 we would like to start filming. We want a couple of days to film.  So that during Thanksgiving break we’re stress free. The week of Thanksgiving break we want to film that Tuesday 11/26.

Music Video Intro Conventions

We’re finally finished with our commercial videos. I’m so happy we’re moving on to something new. The making of the commercial was fun while it lasted. I look forward to using the new skills I learned from the previous project. I feel I grew stronger as a aice media student. Also, now I know the areas I need to improve on. I look forward to displaying a more professional approach with our Music Video.

Today, where going to start making our Music videos. My group and I discussed songs to choose from. We chose the song “Love Don’t Change” By Jeremih It s a song in the RnB/ Soul genre. The song conveys a message of a love that lasts forever. We chose this song, because we had a vision about what our music video would look like. As soon as we heard the song it clicked. The other songs we looked at did not give us that feeling. This song is considered a throw back , it’s full of emotions which you can hear in the singers voice. When I hear this song it warms my heart, and beings happiness over me. I think the use of this song will be great when it comes to making out commercial.

C- R&B male singers usually wear tight shirts and jeans. They try to appeal to the female fans, and they often want to be seen as seductive. Tight shirts usually bring out they’re muscle fatigue, which most of them have.

L-In R&B videos they usually use dim lights inside of a small room, where they usually look through a window. This helps the audience feel the emotions he’s going through and it creates a sense of sadness. Sometimes they use natural lights to make the send me seem more realistic.

A- The actors in the RnB categories mostly consist of a lead male and female roles. In most of the RnB videos I seen the actors are usually in a relationship, getting out of one, or coming together.

M- In RnB videos the females wear make-up. I noticed that in the videos when the camera zooms in on the female you could see her make-up. So the use of make-up is to make the female more appealing in the video.

P- RnB music videos usually barely incorporate props. Due to the fact that most of the video focuses on the actors unless the Prop is what causes conflict between the actors.

S- In most RnB videos the setting takes place in a room with a back ground, or in a house. Some videos take place outside which will most likely be in the rain.

Shots- for the shots we want to use a extreme close up, to show the actors expression and his emotions. We’re also going to use a two-shot because we realized in lots of love song music videos it shows the boy and the girl. Lastly, we’re going to use a point of view shot because it symbolizes what the main character sees; usually they show how the guy sees the girl walking or laughing in slow motion.

Angles- We want to use the eye level angle because in a lot of music videos the actor is looking up while singing. We’re also going to use a Dutch because we want to make the sense more cool.

Editing Blog pt.2

After the frustration from the computers not working last class today we began to edit. Today my group finally got to edit our commercial. Last week we where having technical difficulties with pinnacle studios. So of course we had a delay in editing. Our teachers informed us about our new editing schedule. So that
day we could come in class ready to edit. Thrilled again to finally start the editing process. I really hoped that we didn’t have any technical difficulties on Tuesday. So we came in class that Tuesday ready to edit. My parter grabbed a computer and logged into her single sign on.

We waited patiently for her computer to log in. After the computer logged in I took the flash drive, and put it in the computer. This was where all our footage was. Then we opened up pinnacle studios. This took a LONG time to load. When it loaded up I deleted the sample footage that was there. My parter clicked the import button, and we saw another tab pop up. I clicked on the folder with our flash drive name on it. I imported the stuff from my flash drive onto pinnacle studios. When the files finished copying, the film was ready to be edited.

My group and i decided to watch all the footage to see the parts we wanted to keep. I dragged the scenes we needed on the editing strip and trimmed time off a few of them. Whenever we tried to see how the footage looked all together the computer would lag. This was frustrating, because it was going so slow and we had limited time. We waited a few minutes to see if it would go a the normal pace. When pinnacle studios stopped lagging we watch the footage. After we watched we deliberated on whether or not to cut or add more footage. My team members decided they wanted transitions and music. So i passed the computer and watched as one member added transitions that went with our commercial. Then we added music to the background of the beginning of our commercial.

Editing Blog

Today I started editing my commercial. I was looking forward all weekend to go through the process of editing. Sadly we hit a few bumps in the road with the computers. The computer my group and I where originally going to use did not have pinnacle studios on it. So of course we had to move to another computer. When we got to the new computer I logged into the computer. We started looking for pinnacle studies and when I opened it I was thrilled. You ever get so excited a smile emerges on your face ? Yeah that was me in that moment. Now it was time, my first time to edit and i was so exhilarated.
At first we started looking for the file on the desktop with our footage. When we found it i clicked it and dragged it over to pinnacle studios. My brain kept saying ohhh your doing this, don’t mess up the editing process. I of course had my notes from the editing lecture in class. I was looking over my notes to know what i had to do in order. I had to make sure I was using pinnacle studios correctly. So after rereading my notes I started to confer with my group. We discussed what parts of the raw footage we where going to use. I clicked on the import button to open up my folder. Then when we had what we wanted I went to edit.
When I went to edit the computer started going slow and freezing up. This was really frustrating for me. I was so excited to edit today, but it didn’t seem like that was going to happen. Things weren’t going my way while trying to edit. I sat and patiently waited for the computer to start working. While waiting my group members and I talked about what we hoped the outcome of our commercial would be. I was really disappointed that we couldn’t edit our footage. Talk about getting your hopes up. That’s exactly what I did. We still had Wednesday to edit, but I don’t think my enthusiasm will be the same.

Filming Blog

Today was my first day of filming my commercial. Actually, today was my first day using a canon camera and going through the process of shooting a commercial. It was exciting, and insightful at the same time. My group members checked out the camera, and told me to put the SD card in the camera. I remember what Ms.Cats taught us in class about the steps to correctly putting in the SD card. So of course I used her insightful information. Once I inserted the card, we had our tripod and we where ready to head out and start filming. Once we got to the track we had to find the perfect spot to film. It took us a while to find a spot we thought had the right amount of sunlight, and seemed spacious enough for our actor to move. Once we felt we found the right spot we began setting up the tripod.

Setting up the tripod took a great deal of time from our filming process. I would say it took me 5 times to tighten the camera up on the tripod. For some reason I couldn’t seem to remember how to put the camera on the tripod, but it came back to mind. After I put the camera on the tripod my group member extended the legs of the tripod, and we where ready to film! Our actor had on his Nike apparel he was in position, ready to go. But there was one problem, kids that we’re on the track kept walking in our shots. So of course we had to relocate. When we’d finally found the spot where they wouldn’t be seen in our shot we set up the tripod again. My team member started recording an over the shoulder shot of our actor walking on the track. For our next shot we were going to get our actor stretching in his Nike apparel.

My group decided to do a pan shot while our actor was doing his warmup. This took about 10 minutes since we where trying to get the best footage possible. While recording we tried to make sure our angles where precise. The last scene we shot took the longest. We had to set up the track equipment that was involved in the video. This scene involved one of my team mates running, so as filming started I had to yell “Ready,Set, Go !” I had to yell it a couple of times. Today i learned that the filming process won’t always go as planned. You have to be ready just in case something doesn’t work out. All in all I think today was pretty successful. I had fun, using the camera for the first time.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today, I learned about the process of checking out a camera, media pass and SD card. I also learned how to dump. Our teacher went over the fact that every time we check out a camera we need to fill out the agreement form. She went over what’s needs to be filled out on the form, what happens if the information is not completely filled out, and when it was appropriate to turn the camera back in. We where also educated on the proper way to sign out the SD card reader. She demonstrated how to put it in the camera gently, and explained the sole purpose of it. Which was to move the footage we’d taken on the camera and move it over to the desktop of the computer. She explained the hazards of not using the SD card properly and how our footage could get lost, so we should have our footage in different places. We learned how to slide the SD card into the “little door” on the camera. Overall I gathered what she was saying, and I don’t think I’ll have issues with the check-out process or the use of the SD cards.
In addition, we learned how to dump. Dumping is when you take the footage footage from the camera and put it on the computer. Ms.Katz throughly went through the steps and procedures of how to correctly dump on the computers, using Pinnacle Studies 18 or 19. She also made clear, how to put the SD card reader in the USB, how make a folder on the desktop and label it to move all the footage over to a folder on the desktop. The purpose of this was so that our footage was saved someplace safe. More on she got into, what do do if you couldn’t find your footage on the computer (( go on private and click AVCHD then BDMV)). I also learned that i could dump at home, with the USD cord that’s in the camera bag and bring it to school on a flash drive. We where also educated on how to import from desktop to pinnacle studios. I saw how she looked for the folder and clicked the plus button to import it, also how the raw footage was on the screen waiting to be edited. Me.Katz continued by, clicking on footage and clicking the razor blade to split the footage that she didn’t want (( making sure it was yellow before she hit delete )) .
Towards the end of her demonstration Ms.Katz showed how to cut up, and change footage. How to build on A.V. track 2 and each layer with a different track. She showed how to right click to open the affect editors and all the transitions, and how to add music from youtube. All in all today I learned a lot of new things I’d never thought i would use or have knowledge of . I look forward to using the skills Ms.Katz taught us next week when we continue on our commercials.

Planning Blog For Nike Commercial

Our group will be using the track to film our Nike commercial. The actor will walk up to the track with headphones on while music is playing in the background. He will have his Nike tracksuit on and will start warming up. Then he takes off his tracksuit and start putting on his Nike spikes and sprinting clothes. He will walk up to the block and get in.The camera will zoom in on his shoes and clothes. Emphasizing the product we’re trying to sell. The music will start to fade out as he is standing on the block then there will be complete silence and a sound will indicate for him to start running when he gets to the end the camera will zoom in on his face.

Props: Headphones, Backpack, and running blocks
Costumes: Nike Spikes, Warm-up clothing(Jacket and Pants), Black running shorts, running shirt
Location: On the track. He will be running. They offer a close to the ground feel and stability.
Schedule:
-10/10: Planning-
10/14: Storyboarding
-10/21: Film
-10/23: Editing
Backup Plan: In the case it starts raining then will have a race between students in the hallway. Student 1 will yell to another student “do you want to race?!” then student 2 will say yes and put on his nike shoes. Student 1 will put on a different brand that isn’t as fast as nike. There will be another student in the middle who will say go then the two students will take off. Student 1 will trip and fall while the student 2 runs ahead to the finish line. Student 2 will win the race because in this scenario Nike is the better shoe option. At the end the student 2 will say “ You could have...only if you had Nike” while holding the shoes up.
Props: Nothing
Costumes: Nike shoes, different brand shoe
Schedule:
-10/10: Planning-
10/14: Storyboarding
-10/21: Film
-10/23: Editing
Location: Hallway between office and gym

Conventions/Code Blog

Our group chose to do a Nike commercial. We had to research on what is the norms of a nike commercial or shoes commercial. Some things that we observed where the camera angles, camera movements, and different sounds. In a Nike commercial there were a lot of different camera movements that they used to convey their theme/message. In this specific video they use pan shots while the runners where running down the track. One thing that we saw a lot in the nike videos where zoom up’s of the nike sign on the clothing and/or shoes. There were many close ups of the athlete’s faces, showing their facial expressions. The use of close ups showed all the passion they had for their sport, but you also saw the anger and disappointment when they lost or something went wrong.
We also noticed how some of the nike commercials we watched had diegetic sounds, dialogue, and soundtracks. Most of the dialogue put in these commercials where words of encouragement toward the athletes in these commercials. There were mainly voiceover in the videos showing the thoughts the athletes had as they were getting prepared for the game or meet. One thing that we saw and liked was the use of the person's breathing sounds as they were finished. We plan to incorporate something like this in our own commercial.
As we were talking over idea for the commercial we think the hardest part will be trying to get a tracking shot without a dolly. When you only have so many equipment available to you it’s hard to get the shots we want. It will be interesting to see what we’ll have to do to get what we what.

Introductory

10/04/19

Hello, my name is Jasmine also known Jass. I was born at St. Mary's hospital in West Palm; right along side my twin brother. Growing up I lived in West Palm Beach, which is where all my immediate family is. I loved spending time with my family and for the 10 years of my life i spent there. Until i had to move to Broward County, i hated it here at first. Moving, leaving all my family and friends was very tough for me.

5 years, almost 6 years later and I've come to love Broward County. I realized the move down here changed me for the better, and made me a more outspoken person. Growing up I'd always wanted to pursue my dream of being a lawyer, and to this day that's what I'm doing. Something about making an argument, and proving it veracious with evidence and logic sends so much excitement through me.

In my future, i hope to be a successful family lawyer. I plan on going to college I'm not sure which one I'd like to attend yet I just know i want to go. I just plan to strive and achieve all my many goals. I was to be a affluent African-american business women, to make my great grandmother proud. May she rest in peace. #breastcancerawareness #october
